The Krembo Phenomenon

Autumn is here and with it
come the first krembos of the season
and it is a truth universally acknowledged that
a krembo should have it's own serving dish

mine is made out of the thrilling (and recycled) combination
of three rolls of toilet paper and a paper plate
and you wouldn't believe how many krembos is can hold

Succoth - The Sequel

We had another celebration for the second holiday of Succoth
We had decorations (me)

And more decorations (also me)

And other things as well
(this time, only the cutlery in the basket is me)

It was a nice day and the weather was perfect
and no more holidays for quite a while

The Tea Party

The toys have decided to throw a big party
a real celebration - both hearty and arty
they cook and they bake, even cleaning the room
the bear stands aside, a picture of gloom

By five o'clock the preparations are done
and the guests are invited to a cake or a bun
still the bear is upset - what about me?
you know very well I only eat gluten-free

The Big Blue Bear

The big blue bear likes to keep to himself
in his quiet place at the back of the shelf
snubbing those grubby little boys
not playing with any of the other toys

But then, one day, with summer's end
the big blue bear suddenly decided to blend
he played domino and puzzles and a game of chance
who knew that a bear could dance?

By the end of the day the room was a mess
and mother was certainly less than impressed
but the other toys still talk of the day
when the big blue bear came out to play

A woolen cube can be a very nice friend

A woolen cube can be a very nice friend
Whether made of pure wool or an acrylic blend
It comes in an amazing explosion of color
Or just one tone (but that’s a little bit duller)

A cube is square and round at the same time
Not to throw it about is simply a crime
It is always willing when you want to play
And waits patiently by while you are away

It’s wooliness is a hug that tickles your chin
And cheers you up when someone is mean
It will cuddle with you when you’re taking a nap
So don’t you forget it when you’re all grown up!

Bird of Paradise

Two pomegranates bonded together on my sister's tree
to create a perfect bird

Did you know that the ancient scouts brought pomegranates to Moses
to demonstrate the fertility of the promised land?
And according to the Qur'an, pomegranates grow in the gardens of paradise

Tic-tac-toe

I had a tiny amount of wool left over from another project
and decided to make a small board
tic-tac-toe has become popular again

The playing stones are 'made' from pebbles
collected at the beach
and I decorated them with two tones of nail polish

I have a feeling that we will all be grabbing for the pink

Orangette and Primrose and the Great Bake-Off

The village is once again in an uproar. A new bake-off competition has been arranged. The goods are to be sampled in the Vicarage on Sunday and the winner is to receive a blue plate with a picture of the queen. Orangette is very keen on that plate and even keener that Mrs. Harrison next door not win it, and on Sunday morning, bright and early, the two friends are in the kitchen ready to go.

They've been going through their recipe books all week, considering and debating, and have finally decided on their award-winning seed cake. With a good recipe and a new stove they are quietly confident and get to work. They sift and cream and make and bake and in no time at all a beautiful cake, light and golden, sits on the counter.

When the time comes to make their way to the Vicarage, Primrose suggests a detour to visit Mrs. Montague, whose been feeling under the weather all week. Orangette presents the cake and cannot help noticing Mrs. Montague sitting up a bit straighter, looking more lively and interested. It is well known around the village the Mrs. M. has a sweet tooth and a nice slice to seed cake may just nurse her back to health. The two friends look at each other, Orangette bids farewell to queenly plate, and they settle down to tea and gossip with a good neighbor.

(this brilliant mini-stove, perfect in every detail, was made by my father)

Happy New Year

To leave the old with a burst of song,
To recall the right and forgive the wrong;
To forget the thing that blinds you fast,
To the vain regret of the year that’s past.
