Mr. Owl

I saw an owl up in a tree
I looked at him and he looked at me
I couldn't tell you about his size
For all I saw were two big eyes

Orangette and Primrose and the Allotment Wars

There is no denying that if you want to grow roses and such nothing can beat the cottage garden, but if you wish to grow proper vegetables - you must have an allotment. Orangette and Primrose have been on the list forever and when they finally got their allotment it was a bit of a let-down to find out that they were placed right next door to that grumpy old warmonger, Mr. Flood. Mr. Flood is known around the village both for his crotchety ways and his award-winning cauliflowers and he immediately took against the two.

Orangette and Primrose have been trying to rise above it ever since, putting in a large butch of carrots, enjoying a salad on a warm evening, being as pleasant as possible. But nothing doing! Mr. Flood has been throwing around some pretty wild accusations and it might even be suspected that he's found a way to tamper with their young crop. Now, our heroines are the most peaceful and loving characters, but if they happened to let slip to a young relative, a rabbit with a good appetite, that there are lovely vegetables to be had right next door, they really can't be blamed for a thoughtless comment, now can they?

Late to the Party

I've been wanting to do something with hama beads for a while now. I've had an idea for a special project which requires a large-ish peg board and so far I've not been able to find one, so I've filed it in under the category of 'one day'. And then, one day, I needed a small gift and thought that the time has come to try my hand.

Now, of course, I'm a hama bead enthusiast and the first thought I'd like to share is that the thing should come with a warning, it is addictive! I was going to try one coaster before bed-time and of course did not budge from my desk until I've made a complete set. And then I used the remaining beads to make little ornaments for gift wrapping. And then I run out and went to sleep.

And while you're looking at my team of helpers, if you have any idea where I can get a large board, please let me know

Orangette and Primrose at the Fête

This week Orangette and Primrose are taking part in the village fête. They've decided on a stall of baked goods and have been baking furiously for days. Orangette  is making her signature carrot cake (you can't have too much orange, she always says) and Primrose is partial to cupcakes and a nice sponge.

There's been a bit of a squabble about the decorations - Orangette likes balloons, Primrose wanted flowers, but finally it was agreed that you could not go wrong with an old-fashioned banner.

The fête itself went quite well. There was a moment when it looked like disaster may strike. Young Roger was chasing his brother dangerously close to the stall, but at the last moment the boys were distracted by a donkey race in the near field. And I'm pleased to report that the carrot cake was sold out, the sponge was popular and Mrs. Montague, the butcher's wife, said something rather kind about the cream-filled scones.
