Autumn Cleaning

I am so happy - I may have the tidiest fabric pile around!

It was a big project. I had an amazing amount of fabrics in my cupboard and when I took them out to sort they somehow doubled in size. I sorted and washed and ironed and threw out, and then threw out some more. And then I folded according to color or texture and put the different piles in baskets. I even bought a special caddy for my buttons (I love my buttons).

It took HOURS. I didn't think to take a before picture but no matter, life is scary enough, but I sure hope that you are suitably impressed with the after.

Look What They've Done to My Chair, Ma

Look what they've done to my chair

I Heart Linen

I have a big pile of tablecloths of all sizes,
some that I made, some that were made by others, some that were gifts.
All are lovely in their way and all sit in the cupboard

It is not possible to use them and I cannot bring myself to cut and reuse them, so the only time that they see the light of day is when, once a year, I take them out to wash and iron. Yesterday was that happy day and now that the pile has gone back to the cupboard, I thought I would show the oldest one (I think).

This was made by my great-grandmother Rachel and it certainly shows signs of time and use. I have a couple of other pieces by her and she seems to have favored scenes of childhood and her craftsmanship was very good.

Happy New Year

As little gifts for the New Year
I made my grandmother's Yaffa's famous onion cookies

They have a lot of history in our family and surprisingly even the little ones like them. I took our the jars I've been collecting for the past year (there was supposed to be some jam but I never got around to it) and sprayed the lids a silvery shade of gray.

Some of the jars I decorated with little plastic figures, others with pebbles I collected on the beach (see previous post), all are lined up and ready for the big day.
